McBusted- 5 other “Supergroups” We can only dream of…
News came out this week that boy bands McFly and Busted have decided to merge together to create one big, what the press are calling, “Supergroup”. This got me thinking; is there a supergroup that I would love to see? I delved into the history of music groups and got some great results:
Spice Aloud (Spice Girls and Girls Aloud)
What wouldn’t be to love about this combination? The Spice Girls were insanely popular in the ‘90s, with huge hits such as “Wannabe”, “Spice Up Your Life” and “Stop”, even when they had a reunion at last year’s London Olympic Opening Ceremony, fans were still jumping for joy.
As for Girls Aloud, their increasingly catchy hits “Love Machine”, “Sound Of The Underground” and “Promise” were always going to break records and be high flyers in the charts.
Couldn’t you just imagine Cheryl and Victoria Beckham on stage together? I wonder what “Spice” names the members of Girls Aloud would be assigned to? Cheryl could be “Gross Tattoo Spice”, Sarah could have the ever-endearing name “Rehab Spice” and Nicola… Well, “Ginger Spice” has already been taken, sorry.
Blue Life (Blue and Westlife)
Both groups have now dissembled, however what’s to say they couldn’t come back and take over the world as Blue Life? Imagine it, they’d combine Blue’s “All Rise” with Westlife’s “Mandy”, creating “Mandy Rise”… Yeah, it wouldn’t really work would it? I’m sure Louis Walsh would be ecstatic about it though…
TLC Child (TLC and Destiny’s Child)
This would be the awesome combination of “Waterfall” and “No Scrub” hit-makers TLC, and Beyonce, Kelly & Michelle’s former band, Destiny’s Child. There would be no stopping this super group. There is potential for so many great R&B/pop tracks to come out of this group – “Say My Scrub”, “Bootylicious Girl Talk”, there’s so much musical goodness to behold!
Someone really needs to get in touch with Beyonce about this.
So Blazin’ Crew (So Solid Crew and Blazin’ Squad)
I want these two groups to get together purely for the sheer amount of members there would be! Blazin’ Squad consisted of 12 members, whereas So Solid Crew was made up of 19 – 30 MCs and rappers (they lost count themselves!!). That’s a, potentially, 42 member group! They wouldn’t even be able to fit on the stage!
So Solid Crew’s most notorious hit, “21 Seconds” climbed to number 1 in the UK charts in the first week of its release. Blazing Squad’s “Crossroads” also peaked at the top of the UK charts in 2002. This supergroup just screams success!!
Sugar Kitten (Sugababes and Atomic Kitten)
Last, but definitely not least, we have the fusion between Sugababes and Atomic Kitten. Of course, I’m referring to the original Sugababes line-up of Mutya, Keisha & Siobhan (who have actually now reformed under the name of MKS).
If you think about it, this has kind of been done before; When Siobhan originally left the group in 2001, former Atomic Kitten member, Heidi Range, stepped in and filled the gap – weird!
Can you not just imagine Kerry Katona joining in with MKS? Yeah, me neither. However, it would be a laugh to see for an hour or two…
