Hilary Duff’s Husband
For Hilary Duff’s hubby, hockey is so yesterday.
The Lizzie McGuire actress’ significant other, Mike Comrie, announced his retirement today from the game after 10 seasons in the NHL—and after he underwent his third hip surgery just two weeks ago.
In 2002, the 31-year-old Edmonton native began his career with the Edmonton Oilers before returning to play for the team again in 2009. In between, Comrie also worked his magic on the ice for the Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins.
“My career has afforded me a series of phenomenal opportunities to play and become friends with some of the greatest people I have ever known and some of the greatest players who have ever played the game,” Comrie said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Duff shared the news with fans on Twitter.

“As many of u know mike has announced his retirement,” she tweeted Monday morning. “Its a bittersweet day! He had a wonderful career! but 3 hip surgeries in 5 years is alot!”
Of course, the timing of Comrie’s departure from hockey couldn’t be better. He and Duff tied the knot in August 2010 and are expecting their first child together next month.
“2day we are enjoying all the great memories mike had while playing in the NHL!” Duff added. “Now we have a big addition coming to our family.”
